WHAT? Chateau Zoobeetle is a concept store that brings together the best of Parisian savoir faire, offering exquisite leather goods, ready-to-wear clothing, accessories and jewellery, as well as a wine bar serving fine French wine, cheese and charcuterie.

WHO? The concept store is an extension of French label Zoobeetle Paris, established by stylish sisters Elsa Lepeu and Johanna El Iman in 2012. Lepeu was a designer at Chloe while El Iman worked at Lancel before launching their collection of leather goods. A family heirloom inspired the brand’s name, explains El Iman: “Our mother used to wear a big gold bangle with a scarab beetle on it. It always fascinated us and my sister was convinced there was a real scarab inside it!” The pair wanted to bring the brand abroad and after visiting Hong Kong several times thought it was the perfect city for a store. They moved here in 2014, and opened Chateau Zoobeetle a year later.

WHAT TO EXPECT Chateau Zoobeetle is a haven for all things sartorial, hidden amongst the cafes and antique stores of Tai Ping Shan. “Everything we do in the store embodies the Parisian art de vivre,” El Iman says. The store houses an array of fashion, jewellery and accessory brands, all chosen by Lepeu, as well as Zoobeetle Paris’ line of lightweight yet luxurious leather bags, pouches, wallets and accessories. “Our brand is elegant and classic with a twist, but above all functional,” El Iman says. Shoppers can also enjoy French wines chosen by the store’s sommelier to pair with light bites of ham and cheese or sandwiches. “It’s a retail experience for Hongkongers – shopping, drinks or both,” El Iman says with a smile.

MUST HAVES Keep an eye out for jewellery from Anne Sisteron and fashion brands like Zoe Karssen and Amish Boyish, as well as accessories from Kerzon and Apologie. Zoobeetle Paris also does collaborations, including a recent exhibition with Israeli artist Amit Greenberg and the launch of leather goods inspired by his work.

WHAT ELSE? This month, to celebrate Le French May, the brand will collaborate with French street artist Clet on an exhibition and leather goods collection.
